Think about it. You recycle bottles, cans, and paper. What if everyone kept a third container for your local shelter or rescue?

Testimonials

Hi Pete, Thank you so much for taking the drive down here and talking with the staff. I had several of them (more than half) tell me how much they enjoyed a down to earth and realistic approach to dog behavior, not to mention your comedy. They all have been talking about it since. Some asked about joining your class others want to come and observe some to learn more. So thank you for the inspiration! Great job as always!

Nanci Keklak, Shelter Manager, Animal Welfare Association

We started the Basic Obedience class at Kindred Souls 5 weeks ago (this is an 8 week class) I am absolutely amazed at the positive changes in our dog. Fala is a 10 month old lab mix and has a TON of energy. We had trouble with everything - sitting, staying, down - the only thing she was good at before Kindred Souls was sitting before eating.

She now walks nicely on a leash, sits when I stop, sits on command, lies down on command. We still have some work to do, but the step by step guidance in the classes as well as the clear homework instructions have helped us with Fala so much.

She is so well behaved now - we went to another puppy class at another place and Fala was the worst behaved dog in the class - the tools we were given weren't working for us. After this class I feel we have a great foundation - it takes some work but it is well worth it!

I highly recommend this center and will be looking at other classes once we finish the Basic Obedience.

It's all about the dog. Good manners and pet safety are the foundation of their program. The trainers here teach you how to communicate with your pet to nurture a mutually respectful and loving relationship with your dog. From large dominant breeds to frightened submissive rescued pets, each animal is given the same set of expectations and each owner is taught how to manage their particular pet's needs. Over the past 12 years, 4 of my dogs have passed through the Kindred Souls program and I recommend them to anyone who asks.

Instructional Series - Puppy Principles

Pete’s Puppy Principles is a three part series discussing how to leverage a puppy’s instinctive behaviors as part of your pet’s training regimen.
Pete’s Puppy Principles – Part 1

This is one of the most important principles in teaching your puppies behavior. All puppies are born with the instinct to survive…..every breed, mixed breed or even feral pup. What this means that as a pup explores his universe at that young age he is essentially on a constant path of “testing waters”.

Pete’s Puppy Principles – Part 2

Every puppy is born with ancient inclinations or drives.  These drives are essential to them as a species and many of them based in being a predator species.

Pete’s Puppy Principles – Part 3

High value rewards would be defined in human terms as either Overtime pay or a bonus.  When a pup does something good, we cannot relate to that pup in language that we liked that behavior.  Therefore if we teach “sit” we must communicate to that pup it is good.

Founder, Owner and Lead Trainer of Kindred Souls Canine Center

Pete Campione

Peter Campione has been an award winning dog trainer and behaviorist for twenty-five years. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he has trained dogs all across the country – originally in California, then Florida and now NJ. He owns and operates Kindred Souls Canine Center in Howell, NJ. Pete donates a great deal of his time to rescues and shelters, in addition to his own practice. Through so many years of working with mixed breeds, identifying mix breeds and the breed components that go into each one, Pete has specialized skills in this area. It is his opinion that the key to successful training and communication with your dog, is to get to know who that dog is.

Pete created the concept of using “mindfulness” when interacting with your dog. Mindfulness is an ancient process of staying “in the moment”. Since dogs are programmed to live in the moment, so should we when we communicate. This has been successful in dealing with most behavior issues like aggression, fear and anxiety issues, plus optimizing most every day communication with your dog.

Pete is founder of “The Forgotten Pet Project” to benefit all rescue organizations and the dogs/cats in need.

Pete makes TV appearances giving lectures on canine behavior and has

numerous articles published on dogs. His DVD “Kids and K-9’s” is carried in over 400 local libraries. Look for his new book is on training the perfect puppy.
